As early as the tenures of Otto Wawrziniok (1873–1934) and Robert Eberan von Eberhorst
(1902–1982), the long-established institute has collected important contemporary evidence
of motor vehicle and combustion engines for pedagogic purposes. Combustion engines and
assembly units from the beginnings of vehicle construction to the present day are brought
together in the collection. Since the 75th anniversary of the Institute of Combustion Engines and
Motor Vehicles in 1993, the existing exhibits have been presented as an integrated collection.
