Das Spannungsdynamometer nach Görges ist eines
der wertvollsten Objekte in der Dauerausstellung
der Kustodie der TUD. Als Chefkonstrukteur von
Siemens & Halske in Berlin entwickelte Johannes
Görges (1859–1946) dieses Messgerät. Er brachte es
als Lehrmittel mit nach Dresden, als er 1901 auf die
Elektrotechnik­Professur an die damalige Technische
Hochschule Dresden berufen wurde. Das historische
Instrument steht symbolisch für jene wirkmächtige
Symbiose aus Forschung, Lehre und Industriepraxis
in bestimmten Technikfeldern, die sich schon früh
heraus gebildet hat und die auch die heutige TUD
noch prägt. Elektrotechnik und Elektronik zählen dazu.
Angefangen aber hat alles noch viel früher:
1828, als die Königlich­Technische Bildungsanstalt
zu Dresden gegründet wurde, um die Fachkräfte
für die aufblühende sächsische Industrie zu formen.
Zur Technischen Hochschule wurde sie 1890 erhoben,
zur Technischen Universität 1961. Seit 2012 ist die
TUD Exzellenzuniversität.

The tension dynamometer by Görges is one of the
most valuable objects in the permanent exhibition
of TUD’s Office for Academic Heritage, Scientific
and Art Collections. Johannes Görges (1859–1946)
developed this measuring device when he was chief
designer at Siemens & Halske in Berlin. In 1901,
he brought the instrument with him to Dresden as
a teaching aid when he was appointed Chair in
electrical engineering at what was then the Dresden
school of technology. The historical instrument is
symbolic of that effective symbiosis of research,
teaching and industrial practice in certain fields of
technology – a symbiosis that emerged early on and
still characterizes TUD today. Electrical engineering
and electronics were pioneering fields. But it all
began nearly 200 years ago in 1828, when the Royal
Technical Educational Institute of Dresden was
founded to supply skilled workers for Saxony’s
flourishing industry. It was upgraded to a school of
technology in 1890 and to a university of technology
in 1961. Since 2012, TUD has been a University of
Excellence.
